Are you familiar with the Leprechaun series? For those of you who aren't familiar, the Leprechaun series consist of eight comedy horror films that centers on an evil and murderous leprechaun known as Lubdan. When his gold is taken from him (even if he isn't thinking about it), he resorts to reclaiming it by any means necessary. All of the films, except the seventh and eighth, stars Warwick Davis (Willow, Return of the Jedi and so much more) as the Leprechaun.
The Leprechaun franchise may not be the best series out there; however, you may enjoy the goofiness of it all. If you want to check out the series, I recommend going in not taking it too seriously. Just enjoy the cheese that it offers.
LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS (2014)
This sixth installment strays far from the original movies. It reveals the origin of the Leprechaun and the history of the village he is from. The film revolves around friends who are vacationing in Ireland but wind up being hunted down by the Leprechaun. This film doesn't star Warwick Davis as Leprechaun. Instead, wrestler Dylan Postl plays the famous role.
From the synopsis, it seems like it's going to be promising. However, I yearned for the original Leprechaun and the silliness of the previous films. Also, I wasn't the biggest fan of the storyline. This one had major potential because it was more serious; however, I felt disappointed. If you haven't seen this one, I recommend at least giving it a shot. You may enjoy it. Also, if you dig WWE, you may love seeing Dylan Postl take on this role.
LEPRECHAUN IN SPACE: 4 (1997)
In the fourth installment of the series, the Leprechaun finally gets a woman to agree to marry him. The woman is a Princess who just wants his gold, while the Leprechaun just wants to become the King of her planet. I knew what I was getting into with the title, but I never expected the Leprechaun to come out of a man's genitals. There are plenty of other outrageous scenes that will make you wonder why you're watching the movie, but you may still be entertained.
LEPRECHAUN BACK 2 THA HOOD (2014)
I wasn't crazy about the Leprechaun going to the hood the first time, but why would he RETURN? Most people want to escape the ghetto, but the Leprechaun seriously cannot get enough. And what's even more unfortunate, this is Warwick Davis's last appearance in the franchise. Mr. Davis did a great job as the Leprechaun; however, the film was similar to the previous one. A group of friends are poor and live in the ghetto, but they find gold and spend it all. But once again, the Leprechaun goes on a killing spree for revenge and yes, it's ridiculous. On a plus side, the acting and special effects are decent.
Note to self, don’t want the Leprechaun to murder you? Get him really, really high.
LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD (2000)
"Death to he that steals a Leprechaun gold."
The title is pretty self explanatory. The Leprechaun is in the hood and on a killing spree. And yes, it's ridiculous. I'm not a big fan of the blatant stereotypes towards Black and Asian people, along with the lack of cleverness. However, the film is entertaining, especially the cheesy one liners from a variety of characters. The Leprechaun quotes Martin Luther King, Jr. within the first five minutes and raps. Plus, Coolio is randomly in this movie. Not too sure why. But why not, right?
LEPRECHAUN 2 (1994)
This is the only film that takes place on St. Patrick's Day. How awesome is that? Out of all the movies, I feel like this is the one where Leprechaun is more sinister.
This one picks up 25 years after the first film. A young woman named Lila is arriving at an old farmhouse where her mother Tory used to live. Funny thing! Tory was in the first Leprechaun movie, played by Jennifer Aniston. Anyhow, Lila is there with her sorority sisters because they would like to build an eco-friendly house for their sorority. In this one, we also see another familiar face, the character Ozzie, who is now working at the local taxi service.
Leprechaun Returns is not perfect, but if you like the original film, I think you will enjoy this one. And although Warwick Davis is not in this film, it's a throwback to 90s cheesy horror movies. It's actually funny with an awesome amount of gore.
LEPRECHAUN 3 (1995)
I think at this point the creators of this film just wanted to send the Leprechaun random places as fun. In this one, the Leprechaun is terrorizing people in Las Vegas and anything can happen. He's killing people once again, granting wishes and much more! We see him invade a casino, and we see Caroline Williams's boobs and booty explode. This one was pretty cool because we were able to see one of the victims become the Leprechaun, creating a hybrid.
LEPRECHAUN (1993)
This is the movie that introduced us to the outrageous Leprechaun with his striped stockings and buckled toting shoes. He's a master manipulator and shapeshifter, and he's full of tricks!
The film starts out with the Leprechaun, trapped under a crate with a four leaf clover on top of it. Many years later, he escapes and is now in search of his gold.
This is Jennifer Aniston's first feature, and I'm curious if she watched any of the other movies.
How would you rank the Leprechaun series?
