Queen Goes International: HOWLING VILLAGE

From the iconic director Takashi Shimizu comes Howling Village!

Queen Goes International is a segment where I share horror films or series that I'm keeping a look out for. Whether its cinema these spicy brown eyes have seen before, or cinema you and I must see before our dirt naps, I will express my God-given right to spread the horror love coming from all corners of the Earth. ðŸ’š

Takashi Shimizu has directed many movies that are near and dear to my heart, such as Ju-on (2002), Tomie: Re-Birth (2001) and Reincarnation (2005). When I first heard about his upcoming movie, naturally, I sharted...then darted to Google for more info! See, as a teen, I dove deep into the oasis of Japanese horrors. During that time, I discovered Director Shimizu's ominous, slow-burn style. Now, based on the first seven minutes of his new film, I see that Shimizu still has it.

Howling Village was released in Japan on February 7th, 2020. There's no tentative release date in the US, but I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for one.

A lengthy informative synopsis: Inunaki Village, located in Fukuoka Prefecture, also called 'Howling Village'. A psychiatrist, Kanade Morita, has a sixth sense which has caused her constant suffering. One day, her older brother Yuma and his girlfriend Akina visit Inunaki for the purpose of testing their own courage. They end up almost killed, and Akina seems to have lost her sanity. Yuma consults with Kanade in an effort to find the reasons for Akina's condition. Soon afterwards, Akina commits suicide. Yuma takes a few friends back to the village. Not only does Yuma end up missing but his friends meet mysterious deaths in a telephone box near the village. Located beyond a tunnel with a sealed exit, the village is supposed to have been eradicated by the construction of a dam. Kanade begins to realize that her ancestors may be the reason for the incidents occurring around her. Amidst all this, a mysterious man seems to be the key to unraveling the history and tragedy of the village..." - (IMDb)
