Tampa Bay Screams 2017

Interested in my experience at Tampa Bay Screams? Read on!

This was my second year at Tampa Bay Screams, you can read about my experience from last year at Florida Geek Scene.

What is Tampa Bay Screams?
A new horror convention hosted by Gatorblade Films and Grindhouse Video, Tampa Bay Screams is a celebration of Tampa Bay's independent horror film community. Guests range from local to national film celebrities who are available for photos and autographs. The vendors include VHS/DVD/blu-ray purchases or swaps, local comic books, horror novels and so much.

I arrived at Tampa Bay Screams mid afternoon and the rain was not letting up anytime soon. Last year, it was a breeze for me to find a parking spot; however, this year it wasn't as easy but I still found a great spot. Before reaching inside, the patio was filled with people enjoying drinks and representing their favorite horror movies by wearing a horror themed t-shirt or fitted hat. I recognized actors in some of my favorite independent horror films chatting casually and enjoying the company of fans. I would be lying if I said I wasn't feeling a bit star struck but luckily I kept my cool.

Upon making it inside the hotel, I purchase my wristband for $15.00. I purchase my ticket the day of event and if I would have bought it ahead of time it would have only been $8.00! Nevertheless, I had my wristband that allowed me access to the wonders of this horrific yet vibrant growing convention. The convention was very well organized and everyone looked as if they were having a great time. It was very refreshing being surrounded by people who loved the genre I absolutely love. I decided to visit every single vendor and purchase whatever my little heart desired. As many of you know I'm huge fan of independent horror movies and it's so important to support. Anyhow, there was plenty of room for everyone and I took my time visiting each booth without worrying that I was taking up too much space.

The vendors definitely knew how to cater to their current fans and even new fans. There were opportunities to even be a part of a film, if you're an aspiring actress or simply want to experience the magic of movies. Every individual I encountered was not for the small talk and that will definitely leave a lasting memory.

Overall, I had a good time at Tampa Bay Screams and I'm really looking forward to Tampa Bay Screams 2018. There were many fans that gathered at one location to express their love and curiosity of the horror genre. As a fan, I felt incredibly welcomed and I made connections with people who love what I love!

If you have never attended Tampa Bay Screams, I highly recommend it for those who adore independent horror films.
