My Favorite Black Horror Films

It's the last day of February so in honor of it I thought I would create a list of my favorite Black Horror Films!

Def By Temptation (1990)

Along with being one of my favorite Black horror films this is also one of my favorite Troma films! Woot! A film about an evil succubus living in NYC and preying on sleazy men who just want to get laid? Why not? Samuel L. Jackson has a small role in this and even though it's small, he still yells.

Bones (2001)

From awesome director Ernest Dickerson is this forgotten gem! A tale of an undead '70s gangster seeking revenge for his death. I absolutely loved the story line.

Vampire in Brooklyn (1996)

A Caribbean vampire?! Yeeesss! He comes to Brooklyn to find a mate since he's the last of race. This film is a comedy horror but definitely entertaining and worth watching even if it's just once!

Tales From The Hood (1995)

This film is a anthology, that's completely straight forward and touches on issues in the Black community. The issues ranges from races, gang violences, police brutality and more. The true star in this master piece, in my opinion is Clarence Williams III for his out of the world performance as the crazy mortician who is also the anthology's storyteller!

"This ain't no funeral home!" <~ Creepiest line EVER! Scared me as a kid and still creeps me out!

The People Under The Stairs (1991)

This film is directed by one of the masters of horror, Wes Craven! He made his way into the Black culture a twisted fairy tale about a young kid who sneaks into his psychotic landlord home for the gold. Unfortunately for this kid he discovers that his landlord is even more psychotic than he could even imagine! The house is a pure horror filled with boys in the basement who eats human flesh.

J.D.'s Revenge (1976)
A tale of a young law student who becomes possessed by the spirit of JD Walker, a gangster from the 1940s. Throughout the film J.D. slowly takes control of the young lawyers body so he can seek revenge on the people who framed him for the death of his sister! The acting in this film is a amazeBALLS.

Candyman (1992)

Tony Todd pretty much became a the most iconic horror villain because of this film! This film is an urban legend that centers around "Bloody Mary"! You know the tale of a figure who appears in the mirror if you say his name give times in front of a mirror. Tony Todd plays a black man who was lynched for having sexual intercourse with a white woman! *GASP*

Sugar Hill (1974)

Sugar's boyfriend is murdered by mobsters because he didn't want to sell his night club so now Sugar seeks revenge with the help of using a voodoo spell! Sugar gets help from an army of silver eyeball zombies and gets her revenge!

I recommend all of these films!
