UPCOMING HORROR -- Mama

I think I may be the only person looking forward to seeing the new horror flick Mama, which is coming out next month!

I'm a fan of Guillermo del Toro, not only because his name is spicy, but because any film he's associated with is usually pretty creepy! When a film is creepy, how can you go wrong?

ANYHOW! Mama is directed by Andy Muschietti and will officially be released January 18th, 2013! It's a supernatural horror that's about two little girls who disappear into the woods the day that their parents are killed. The little girls are then rescued years later and try to begin a new life. However!!! *dunDUNdun!* The two girls find that someone or someTHING still wants to make sure they're tucked in at night.

Thank you Blood-Disgusting.com for the awesome photos!

Enjoy the trailer!

Is anyone else looking forward to this supernatural thriller?

Interview -- Spooky Empire's very own Petey Mongelli!!

*I had to reupload this since it disappeared from my blog. I'm still coming down from my Spooky Empire Weekend high.

Recently, I had an awesome opportunity to interview Spooky Empire's founder Petey Mongelli! I was able to somewhat pick his brain on his horrific creation: Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend in Orlando, Florida! Thousands of people look forward to it EVERY year! Yes, the beauty of Central Florida being taken over by HORROR FANS! Are you crying like I am?

Formerly known as Screamfest (changed in 2008), this awesome horrorfest has gone from a single room hall in Plantation, FL to the entire Wyndham Resort in Orlando! It's a home for horror with its very own celebrity roster! There are over 60 celebrities who attend, along with a dozen of guest panels, a weekend filled with full movie screenings and so much more! Each year, this convention makes history. So let's enjoy some of that history now with my interview with Petey below. Make sure that you attend Spooky Empire! If not, remember, I know where you live...and so does the guy in the picture below.

1. For those few who haven't been fortunate enough to know until now, could you please tell us who you are and what you do?

My name is Petey Mongelli. I am the owner and promoter of the largest horror convention in the United States, Spooky Empire.

2. How did Spooky Empire start?

Ten years ago, me and two other guys were working on the Broadway Show The Lion King. I mentioned to them that I wanted to put together a convention, but at the time the idea was to do more of a rock n roll convention. Music was kind of in a slump at that time, and horror movies were becoming more mainstream with the first of Rob Zombie’s films. It just seemed like a good choice for a convention. The rest is history.

3. Could you tell us your TOP 5 horror movies?

1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

2. Halloween 2

3. Motel Hell

4. House of 1,000 Corpses

5. The Leprechaun series

4. What's the attendance goal of Spooky Empire? (celebrities and guests)

There’s never enough, once we hit a goal we want more

5. QUICK! There is a zombie apocalypse; what is your weapon of choice?

Baseball bat.

6. What are 3 tips you could give us when attending Spooky Empire?

- Visit the vendor room before you get autographs. There are some great items in there you can get signed.

- Reserve your hotel room way in advance, it always sells out, and then everyone complains they can’t get a room.

- Pace yourself – you don’t want to get too drunk on Thursday night. You have a whole weekend of partying, take it slow and enjoy the show!

7. In 10 years, where do you see yourself and Spooky Empire?

Being able to finally enjoy the actual show, instead of working it and watching it on video later!

8. Which guest are you most excited about seeing this year at Spooky Empire and why?

Rose McGowan, we’re fans of a lot of her work. Also the Nightmare on Elm Street 4 reunion, it’s a first, never been done.

9. Why should we visit Spooky Empire this year?

Why wouldn’t you? If you are going to celebrate Halloween, what better way to do it?

10. Finally, this is just for my own personal record. What is your favorite kind of sandwich?

Cream cheese and jelly.

So by the looks of the cover can't you tell? It's a parody of Paranormal Activity--duh! So expect ridiculous, perhaps funny videos!

Vamps - RELEASE DATE: November 13th, 2012
I doubt that this is a horror, but of course because it has vampires in it, they slap it in the horror section. Anyhow, its the modern day tale of two young beautiful female vampires living the good nightlife in New York. UNTIL!! They fall in love...and now they have to choose between LOVE or jeopardizing their immortality.

Hellsgate - RELEASE DATE: November 16th, 2012

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Part 2) - RELEASE DATE: November 16th, 2012
Not a horror but it has horror elements plus SURPRISINGLY, I'm a fan of Twilight. So. Yeah...judge all you want! I'm a secret romantic.

Hitchcock - RELEASE DATE: November 23rd, 2012
This film is based on a non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello. It's pretty much about how Hitchcock arrives at his highest point of directing and decides to make a horror.

Silent Night - RELEASE DATE: November 30th, 2012
A small-town sheriff and deputy are on the hunt for a murderous Santa Claus who terrorizes their community on Christmas Eve. But with the streets full of Santas for the annual Christmas parade...the killer is hiding in plain sight! Surprisingly! I'm looking forward to this film and have been since last year. :P

The Collection - RELEASE DATE: November 30th, 2012
Synopsis:When Elena’s (Emma Fitzpatrick) friends take her to a secret party at an undisclosed location, she never imagined she would become the latest victim of The Collector, a psychopathic killer. The Collector kidnaps and transports her to an abandoned hotel he’s transformed into his own private maze of torture and death. Upon learning of his daughter’s disappearance, Elena’s wealthy father (Christopher McDonald) hires a group of mercenaries to retrieve her from the vicious grips of The Collector. These mercenaries coerce Arkin (Josh Stewart), the only man to have escaped the wrath of this heinous monster, to lead them through thegruesome labyrinth. Now, Arkin finds himself fighting for his own life in order to save Elena. “The Collection,” directed by Marcus Dunstan and written by Dunstan and Patrick Melton, is a suspense horror film with nonstop thrills at every turn.

I'm sooo looking forward to The Collection!

Sadly, that's all the horrors that are coming out this month...

Happy Horror!

REVIEW -- AiZ: Alice in Zombieland

'Tis the HORRIFIC season! !

Hey PEOPLE, ghouls...etc! A while back (HERE), I told you all about an eBook called AiZ: Alice in Zombieland! Well! Here's my review on it!

Josh Cook's Alice in Zombieland is pure awesomeness! Pretty much the story line and it follows various characters, one being Alice, a girl with the potential to survive Rolan Global's second birth serum (SBS). This serum has the potential to control life, allowing people to neither live nor die, sticking them in a zombielike state but with a mental and physical awareness much like a living human. Richard Roslun seeks to make a fortune from the serum's successs, but not without a fight from Alice's sister, Gee, and friend Sam, who storm from Blake Island to retrieve Alice.

MY LIKES! Because of the title, I initially thought Alice in Zombieland was a comedy horror. I connected Alice in Wonderland to Zombieland. But the story like was actually serious, with lighthearted comedy spread throughout. However! My presumption did not keep me from enjoying the story. Even if you make the same mistakes I did, you won't be disappointed.

All of the characters are believeable. I can't figure out which one I like. Gee is very serious and witty, while Sam is hilarious and quirky! Josh did a great job of combining Alice's innocence and aggressiveness. Those two characteristics are usually hard to do for characters but Josh did a phenomenal job with that one!

The dialogue is awesome and easy to read. It sounds like you are right there listening to the conversations! Also, the setting is explained in an amazing way that comes to light in the reader's mind.

MY DISLIKES! The cover was cool, but in my opinion, I'm not sure if it fits the story. And since it is the first thing I saw, I didn't expect the high level of writing that followed. ALSO! I kept wondering if the story should have been written in past tense than present, it can be wordy in the present tense. This may be my personal preference, but you guys can read it and tell me what you think!

I would totally recommend this eBook to people! Usually, you have to direct entertainment to certain crowds, but Alice in Zombieland is different. Though it contains strong, scifi and horror elements, this story is enjoyable for everyone Pick it up and you'll definitely see what I'm talking about!

AiZ: Alice in Zombieland is now available on Amazon/Kindle and Smashwords! You can check out my interview with Josh Cook HERE! He's extremely laid back and talented. I fell in love with his AiZ: Alice in Zombieland!

I give AiZ: Alice in Zombieland 4 out of 5 queen skulls!

Book Review -- Action in That Afro

I don't usually do written book reviews, but you guys have to read this!!! I mean like NOW! I finished this book recently because I couldn't put it down. Action in that Afro!! I mean, you see how crazy the title is. I didn't know what I was getting into, but the story is just as crazy. It was written by Federico Dixon and was initially called Hearts of A New World, but he changed it to Action in that Afro because he said it suited him better.
I would tell you guys the synopsis, but just click the link below and read it on Amazon yourself. Bottom line, Joey is my favorite character!!

Upcoming Horrors for October 2012!

This film sounds so awesome but is sadly only being released to limited theaters! And what makes it sound even awesomER is the directors who took part in this: Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett, Ti West, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg, Glenn McQuaid, and even the YouTube sensations Radio Silence!

FILM REVIEW -- Resident Evil: Retribution

In this review, I confess my love to Michelle Rodriguez.

This film was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and released n September 14th, 2012. So..if you watched the previous Resident Evil's, it's kind of the same story line. Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak. But, this time around the adventure will lead her to Tokyo, New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow. She'll be aided by new allies and familiar faces. All will have to fight to survive. I personally thought this film has no plot HOWEVER it was still entertaining. It wasn't as bad as people say.

I give it 3 out of 5 queen skulls!
