Upcoming Horrors for August 2012!

It's August! It's time to show the list of all the delightful horrors that are coming out this month! It doesn't matter if it's straight to DVD or theaters--horror is HORROR!

If you've already checked any of the movies out, please let me know; or if you plan on checking any out...let me know anyway! Or! If I'm missing any, let me know!

Total Recall - RELEASE DATE: August 3rd, 2012
Another remake starring Colin Farrell...

The Awakening - RELEASE DATE: August 17th, 2012
A woman, haunted by the death of her fiancĂ©, embarks on a mission to expose all seances! She meets her match when she is called to an all boys’ boarding school to investigate a case. It's a haunting tale that's full of psychological/supernatural thrills.

So, I'm pretty sure the ending will be a twist!

ParaNorman - RELEASE DATE: August 17th, 2012
A comedy thriller about a small town that becomes zombie infested! But have no fear, someone who the whole town (possibly the world) can depend on is the misunderstood local boy Norman. Now, Norman is able to talk to the dead. That would be cool and safe if all he had to do is talk to zombies! But he'll also have to take on ghosts and witches just so he can save his town from a century old curse. I can already sense that young Norman may find his paranormal activities pushing him to the limits!

I'm surprisingly looking forward in checking this out!

The Apparition - RELEASE DATE: August 24th, 2012
When frightening events start to occur in their home, a young couple discover they are being haunted by a presence that was accidentally conjured up during a University parapsychology experiment. This horrifying apparition is feeding off of their fears. It torments them no matter where they try to run.

Sounds too familiar! I thought that was done already?

Solomon King - RELEASE DATE: August 24th, 2012
This film, set in 16th Century England, tells the heroic story of a savage warrior seeking redemption for a lifetime of sins. He renounces violence to live a life of purity. However, he finds himself compelled to pick up his sword once again to vanquish a growing evil...

The Revenant - RELEASE DATE: August 24th, 2012
This a horror comedy that centers around a fallen soldier who somehow finds he has joined the ranks of the living dead! I can't wait to check this out!

Below Zero - RELEASE DATE: August 28th, 2012
This is a true-life story of Jack the Hack who is a screenwriter with writer's block. He arranges to have himself locked in a meat cooler in order to meet a looming deadline. As the temperature drops, the lines between reality and fiction blur and Jack’s story comes to life! It exposes him to a world of horror that only a meat freezer can inspire.

The Day - RELEASE DATE: August 29th, 2012
A group of five survivors are armed with shotguns, axes and machetes and they're wandering the back roads looking for refuge in The Day. It's one of those films where it's a terrifying look into the post-apocalyptic future and the survivors are doing whatever it takes to survive!

The Possession - RELEASE DATE: August 31st, 2012
This film is based on real events that transpired after a family wound up in possession of a haunted box. The real-life box gained notoriety in 2004 when it sold on eBay after causing inexplicable bad fortune to its owners which were attributed to a dibbuk - a malevolent spirit of Jewish folklore trapped in the haunted box. Basically, the family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil.

ANOTHER film that I'm looking forward to see!

The Tall Man - RELEASE DATE: August 24th, 2012
This film is more of a thriller and it takes place in an isolated, slowly dying mining town where children are vanishing without a trace. There is a mysterious entity known locally as "The Tall Man." The town nurse seems a bit skeptical about this tale until her young David disappears in the middle of the night. Desperate to rescue the boy, Julia lives every parent’s darkest nightmare.

Yes! Those are the horrors this month! I'm so proud that so many awesome films are coming out this month!

Happy Horror! Watch horror movies!

  1. I saw a clip from 'The Possession' the other day and it looks interesting. I really can't wait to see 'ParaNorman' because I'm a big fan of Laika, but sadly, we're not getting 'ParaNorman' in Australia until January. :(

    1. I think The Possession looks interesting too especially since it's based off a true story!

Wow! That's a while but I'll make sure I'll do a spoil free review on it! I know it's totally not the same though.. :(

  2. Solomon Kane is really good, minus the so-so CGI at the end though.

  3. Solomon Kane has been finished for over a year and has been seen in England and Europe. Makes me wonder why the delay in the states. THE AWAKENING looks to be interesting as does THE TALL MAN.

  4. Solomon Kane I actually reviewed for my site earlier this year and has been out since 2009, just not here though. Paranorman I'm actually looking forward to a lot. And then I get to see V/H/S/ next month!

  5. The Awakening sounds refreshingly different. I don't remember seeing any movie where a character is trying to expose seances. This is making me think about Houdini and how he tried to expose seances and psychic frauds.

ParaNorman looks really cute from the trailers I've seen. I like those spooky for kids kind of movies. :)

By the way, I just got around to responding to your Winchester House comment! Thanks for leaving me that story. If you pick through my response to you, you'll find an awesome video about that house.

  8. You've got a really cool blog here Queen, apologies for taking so long to check it out. Am looking forward to Tall Man and after the praise above The Awakening.

You should avoid Bride of Re-Animator but the third one, Beyond Re-Animator is better. I'll have it up soon.
